Maybe we should continue to love.

Updated: Aug 15, 2024

Maybe we should continue to love, even if we are disappointed in the response. Even if we feel drained, hollow, left-out. Because love might be the last symptom of life. It might be the only thing that keeps us human.

Maybe we should continue to love, even if we spend half of eternity begging, hoping, beseeching a response, a check-in, for a realization that we are in their thoughts as much as they continue to consume ours.

Maybe we should continue to love because it is the only drug that has the potential to heal us as much as it hurts. The only drug that keeps you addicted for seven lifetimes and beyond.

Maybe we should continue to love because even if the response isn't what we expected, at least they responded, right? Their subtle gestures; the fact that they stand there and breathe alone sets our souls on fire. Keeps us aching, yearning for more: more time, more emotion, more... love.

Despite all of this, maybe we should continue to love. Because it is the only thing left standing as we watch the rest of our worlds fall apart. Love conquers all.
